OSU's Distinguished Business Leaders Series - Mr Ron Sim

Organized by the Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU), the Distinguished Business Leaders (DBL) Series aims to keep Singaporeans in overseas communities abreast of developments in the Nation’s many sectors.
In the fourth installment of the DBL series in Shanghai, OSU warmly invited Mr Ron Sim, Chairman and CEO of OSIM International Ltd, to provide insight and advice on the current economic environments around the world.

In the sharing session of about an hour, Mr Ron Sim shared about his experiences in China, mainly on the rapid changes in China, the processes and challenges when OSIM entered the China market and the progress of OSIM in the China market in recent years.
As many of us know, "copycats" are rampant in China and OSIM faces similar challenges as well. Regarding these intellectual property infringement challenges, Mr Ron Sim advised to constantly innovate by introducing new products every few months to out-pace the competitors.
For those who are about to enter the work force, take note. Mr Ron Sim mentioned that open-mindedness, leadership, critical and strategic thinking skills are the key factors he is looking for in his employees.
It was definitely a memorable evening as we had the opportunity to meet with an industry leader in lifestyle and health-related products who had put a Singapore brand name onto the world’s stage. And hearing these from Mr Ron, it reminded us the key challenges we should be prepared to face in starting up in China.
