about take one...
Take One is the inaugural corporate social responsibility project by the Shanghai Entrepreneurs of the National University of Singapore (SHEN), organizers of prestigious events such as the annual SSBA-SCS Business Forum and In-Conversation (Shanghai), in partnership with the Rotary Club (Shanghai).
Objective of the project is to raise the visibility of these children of migrant workers who provide a source of much needed labour for the growth of China's metropolises. They drive China's engines of growth such as Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, but they often face many difficulties integrating into their host cities. Their problems extend to the education of their children, who often have to pay higher school fees and have relatively limited educational opportunities when compared to their local counterparts.
The project consists of two components: Interacting with the migrant children and teaching them photography skills, publishing the photographs as a series of postcards.
For the first component, we purchased disposable cameras for 150 migrant children in a secondary school for each child to photograph a week of their lives. For the second component, we collected and published the photographs that the children took as postcards to offer the public a glimpse into their hitherto unseen lives. We will be distributing these postcards around Shanghai. This is in hopes of bringing to light their plight and spread their message of hope and strength through their pictures.
